Alphabet Decluttering
Alphabet Decluttering update, this week is the letter C!
Ideas: Cupboard under the stairs, Curtains, Crockery, Cupboards (in general), Christmas, Camping, Caravan/Campervan bits, Clothes, Cables, Cosmetics, Cards, Cutlery drawer, Craft supplies, Chests, Crap Drawer, Car accessories (screenwash, car washing stuff, air fresheners etc), crayons, cans (alcohol or in your kitchen cupboard although that could be t for tins ha), Contacts (phone or social), Cushions, Chests, Candles
I started out on Saturday with the best intention to sort out my clothes this week, and as all women will appreciate, some weeks, it is just not your week. Emotions can play a bigger than normal part and our bodies fluctuate… so it was just not my week – and I’m really proud that I recognised that and moved on without forcing myself. I did manage to make a start and called it quits after about 20 mins and just tidied and reorganised under my bed (where I keep my summer clothes and things that dont fit me right now). Now that sounds really silly but usually I float between 2 jeans sizes depending on the time of year so I’ve not yet gotten round to trying them all on postpartum to declutter. I decided that I need to give myself 2 years to let my body get back to a new normal.
Instead I sorted the washing and put all our clean clothes away, I focussed on Amelia’s outgrown clothes and bagged up lots of things to pass to some friends so at least the Clothes element was entirely a flop.
I’d love to declutter our Christmas bits, which were still sitting at the top of the stairs waiting to go into the loft, but I’m going to leave them for the next time I go through the alphabet.
On Sunday, I decided to change my choices for the week to Cushions Curtains & Chests.
Cushions; When we bought our sofa, it came with terrible cushions which we recovered but never used. They lie around on the side or the floor, and we never use them. I decided its finally time to throw them away, so off to the bin they have gone!
Curtains; In the summer we replaced our bedroom curtains which were purely decorative, for some which would block the light for Amelia. They’ve been sat in a pile of things from the loft to be sorted so they have gone to my charity box pile.
Chests; We have 2 chests in the house. One is downstairs, which has throws and some old dog stuff inside… something we can certainly declutter from here!
The second is in Amelia’s bedroom, its used to be in our room at my dressing table and has loads of shoes in. Given we haven’t needed most of them since we moved out to do the extension, there was bound to be something we can declutter here too!
It was a busy week, ending with a LOOONG power cut, and I didnt manage to get to them so I’m going to extend and try over the weekend (better late than never!) as I’m certain there are loads of bits we can get rid of.
Candles; Completely unplanned added bonus, but I managed to pull out about 15 candles yesterday to light the house up during the 12 hour power cut, and I’ve decided thats excessive by anyones standard so I’m going to chuck some of those out too.
Meal Planning
As you might have seen on instagram, I decided to try using AI to write our meal plan for this week and it was really helpful!
Not only did it give me 7 ideas with links, it also wrote me a shopping list for every meal. Some AI tools can even do this to a budget and store which is fascinating!!
Now, were the meals something we would eat… nope, Mr W is super fussy, so we did adapt them a little and it saved the arguments of what we ate this week so for me thats a win!
I’m going to ask it for 7 new meals today for next week and I’m quite excited to try it again.
Food Audits
This used to be a super regular practice in our house and it fell by the wayside as I’ve not had the time to do them in AGESSSS so I’m hopeful I’ll manage to do some over the next week.
This is a process where I document everything I have in my fridge, freezer and pantry so that I can meal plan without shopping and ensure I use everything before the date is up. I’d ideally like to get them all done before the end of the month as I’m going to attempt a really strict food budget for February. I trialled some templates before Amelia was born, and they worked really well for us so I’ll upload them with next weeks blog for you to try at home too.
Spring Clean
This week we also started some spring cleaning activities and had the carpets professionally cleaned. It forced us to empty the living room entirely, so now we are being choiceful of what we put back in and tidying up some bits that are now more accessible.
So thats it as a late round up from me, I hope everyone is safe after the storm and enjoying time with family over the weekend!
Love, Jo-Anne x
