I’ve shared a few laundry tips now to save you time and money, so thought I’d pop them all together on one handy page for reference!

Product Tips

Did you know that different product types are used for different things? Me either until a few years ago! I used to think that the different products were all just a gimmick until I learnt these tips from a Brand Expert at P&G!

WASHING POWDER should be used for whites; this is because it contains a bleaching agent to keep them WHITE. If you’re using this on colours, they could be fading

WASHING PODS GELS AND LIQUIDS are for colours; they don’t include the same bleaching agents and therefore protect your colours. You can use them on whites for sure, but they don’t have the same whitening effect! What’s the difference between them? I’m sure there’s a technical difference but PODS are designed to give you the correct dosage amount per weight – using too much or too little product is also really bad for both your laundry, your machine and your pocket as you’ll use more than you really need.

By sorting your laundry into colour groups, this is the quickest way to protect your laundry as you wash and help it last longer! There are loads of additional methods for splitting it and most garments will have a particular care label attached.

Machine Tips

1. Clean your washing machine at least once per month using bicarb and distilled or white vinegar on a hot wash… and no you won’t smell like fish and chips. You could also double up and chuck your cleaning cloths in at the same time!

2. Use the delay feature so your wet washing isn’t sitting in the machine – set it to wash while you sleep and finish when you wake up

3. When your washing is finished, leave the door and drawer open a little to let the excess moisture escape to prevent it getting stinky

Putting Laundry Away – in 3 minutes!

Laundry is such an easy way to win back time in your day! Its one job most people procrastinate in their homes causing clutter and stress. How many times have you tipped it onto the bed only to move it off at bedtime?!

Here are my tips on how to put each load away in around 3 minutes:

– Buy a temporary rail and power through hanging things up, the rail will then pull apart and can be tidied away easily… and will make a great option for extra coat storage if you have a party!
– Buy socks that are all the same so you don’t need to waste time pairing them up
– Don’t fold underwear socks or PJs… cos lets face it, who see’s them… and who has time?! If the drawer is too full… declutter it!
– Using all the same style hanger eliminates a choice of what to use. You could also opt for felt slimline hangers which don’t slip and allow you to fit more in the wardrobe
– Keep empty hangers on a hanger tidy (very cheap on eBay) so you’re not searching the wardrobe to find them
– Delegate to older children to help out as a chore
– Have separate baskets for different members of the house, as you unload it from the tumble dryer or airer – you can use colour coded baskets or labels to differentiate
– Iron as you need to, delegate it to a professional or invest in a handheld steamer. It will amaze you what doesn’t really need ironing and save you all of that ironing pile dread!
-Put each load away as it’s finished so you’re not overwhelmed by a mountain in one sitting
