Life Update
You may notice this weekly update is coming to you VERY late, thats because I didn’t want to lie OR advertise my house as empty BUT we took our first family holiday abroad!!
During my week 17 update you may have wondered why things were so chaotic and I didn’t get any decluttering done. Thats because not only were we fitting in our usual chaos… we were packing, shopping, fitting in extra self-care appointments, doing 20 times as much laundry with new outfits etc.
While I am an avid Google Gemini user, I discovered the world of ChatGPT, and with precise prompt engineering, it made my entire experience so much easier. I’ll pop that into its own post as I think it deserves full credit.
While we were on a family vacation, the intent of the trip was to attend a friends wedding in Cyprus which was absolutely incredible. We stayed at the Leonardo Laura Splash Hotel which was very family friendly. We bagged a deal and got gold / upgraded all inclusive which included use of the family room which was so helpful with Amelia in tow, as the room was less busy. The staff were amazing! While the food wasn’t as healthy as we’re used to back at home, but there were great allergen advice and lots of weaning friendly options.
While we were away, it was alao my birthday and I must be rubbing off on Mr W as he was all organised and had my card packed to take with us – what a gem! He also forgave me for making a piggy of myself with all inclusive espresso martini’s so for that he’s earned himself the top husband and Dad award.
Alphabet Decluttering P Q & S
Alphabet Decluttering update, this week is the letter’s Q & S as we’re having a catch up.
Q Ideas: Quilts, Quality over Quantity, Questionable purchases, Quick Fix items (which don’t workout), Quirky collections.
S Ideas: storage containers, software, soft furnishings, summer clothes, sportswear, socks, slippers, swimwear, sports equiptment, sports clothes, scarves
This week was a bit of a catch up week given we fell behind and were on holiday, but I opted for a double whammy… “Quick Fixes that aren’t working for me” and addressed my utility storage. Let me explain…
I have been using some IKEA SAMLA boxes for my excess products that I stored when we did the house renovation in 2023, but the reality is that just means hard to get to stuff and heavy to lift, meaning I often just buy new things… totally defeating the object in having a backsupply to begin with.
Instead I opted for the IKEA BROR shelving unit, this fits the space perfectly and means everything is easily accessible, giving me a chance to loop back to P for “Products” at the same time.
The boxes I’ll reuse in the loft later in the year as all of out loft is organised in these.
I also took our spare Quilts out of the suitcases before holidays. Now I’ve not really decluttered anything BUT I have vac-bagged and labelled so I know what we have. I’m a huge fan of these vac-storage bags – we bought them as they specifically don’t require a hoover when we’re in the van and I use them so much. All the quilts are now in one place in the loft ans looking so much tidier.
We also switched out R for S this week and sifted through my shoes this week, ao if you’re a ladies size 5 / Eu 38, watch out for my vinted posts coming next week! We had hoped to get cracking with the shed too but ran out of time on Thursday as we picked up a few bits shopping while we were child free. We had hoped to clear out the sheds but the weather wasn’t in our favour so we’ll do that later in the summer.
Meal Planning
Meal planning was out the window this week as we were away! However I did create a great prompt for improving my diet whilst breastfeeding and aiming to lose weight which I’ll share with you all soon.
The plan for tomorrow is to get our food audits done and over the next month I’m hoping to cut back our food shopping bill to cover some of the costs of the investments I made tidying up the house… not easy when Mr W kept adding snacks to the basket in The Range!
Spring Cleaning
When we got home we had a day off parenting with Amelia at childcare and Ted still with family, so we decided to do a bit of spring cleaning before heading shopping.
We got rid of a few of our mats in the kitchen which had been washed and were losing the backing. I bought a new mop while we were at The Range (half price!) and some small curver storage baskets to tidy up the porch.
We also bought an Ikea Kallax unit to tidy up Amelia’s toys and books, and I’ve repurposed the Curver basket her books were in, as a grab and go box for the car!
As you can probably tell looking around my house, I love Curver products as they’re so strong, durable and affordable. I use them in my kitchen cupboards, my porch, I have the washing bins, and now a basket for the car!
Weekly round up
After an insanely busy 2 weeks, its been nice to wind down over the weekend, get organised and have some family time ready for getting back to our routine.
I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the sunshine and not be stuck in a routine of firefighting chores.
Love, Jo-Anne x
